Legitimate Ways for College Students to Make Extra Money Online

As families continue to dig themselves out of the rubble of the economic collapse, many students find themselves in the tough position of having to work a job while maintaining full-time status at school. If you're one of these students, you're facing the seemingly impossible task of juggling your classes with a full or part time job. Fortunately, the Internet has made it possible for many people to earn money online. No longer is "working at home" synonymous with multi-level marketing schemes and other dubious money-making endeavors. Most work that you can get paid for online is work that you do as an independent contractor. While working for yourself has its own drawbacks, it does allow you to create your own work schedule, a major plus for students. Here is a sample of some of the jobs that you can find online:

Freelance writing

If you enjoy writing there are plenty of online opportunities to make money online using your writing skills. The type of writing most commonly sought after online is article marketing. Article marketing involves writing non-promotional pieces closely related to the marketer's target niche. For instance, a dog trainer selling her services may need articles written not only on dog training, but also on dog care, dogs in general, and different breeds of dog. Like any opportunity, you want to be weary of scams. While experience is always valued, you can get started as a freelance writer with none whatsoever. You can either advertise your services on online classifieds sites like Craigslist or you can go to any one of the sites on the Web where people and companies post listings for freelance writers. Some websites that feature freelance writing jobs are:
  • Textbroker.com
  • Elance.com
  • ODesk.com
  • Write.com
  • Freelancer.com
  • BidHire.com

Crowd Sourcing

In the last few years a new style of hiring people to do work has arisen. It's based on the theory that a business can divide up some of the smaller tasks that can't be automated and hire people to complete those tasks on a per diem basis. Workers can accept as many tasks as they like, work out of their homes, and set their own hours. The downside of crowd sourcing is that in most instances, the per diem rate paid for each task is very small, usually on the order of a few cents. However, you're able to do as many tasks in one sitting as you want and if you're fast enough, it can add up to a substantial hourly rate. Examples of crowd sourced tasks are tagging images, proofreading ad copy or online descriptions of merchandise, or filling out short forms. Some crowd sourcing companies are:
  • Amazon mTurk
  • CrowdFlower.com
  • CloudCrowd.com

Blogs/AdSense

Another way you can make money as a college student is to start up a professional blog. The way you make money from a blog is to monetize it with AdSense advertising as well as advertising from other sources. You'll start your blog around an idea of interest and create content about that general topic. Once you have enough good content and some visitors, you can put your ads up. How you get visitors is beyond the scope of this article, but having good content is the starting point. AdSense pays you for every click generated by the ads on your blog. The ads are topic sensitive and the more highly related the ads are to your blog content, the better chance you have of people clicking them. You do have to apply to AdSense and be approved before you can run the ads, but it's not hard to do. You can also run different kinds of ads on your blog and it's recommended that you do. You can advertise space on your blog for image and text ads and there are other companies, similar to AdSense where you can apply. Some good forums to learn about blogging for money are:
  • Digitalpoint.com
  • Warriorforum.com
Ad networks to join:
  • Google AdSense
  • Chitika
  • AdBrite
Although these take work, they're generally better than washing dishes at the dining hall!

Miss the Least

So, as you may already know I graduated last week. My friends and professors have asked me how does it feel to be graduated and too be honest it has not set in yet. I do know that there are some things that I will not miss and glad that I don't have to do anymore.

I no longer will need number two pencils and scantrons and pop quizzes are a thing of the past. That one annoying student that always has something to say no matter what , yeah not  going to miss that either.

For sure I am not going to miss the long lines at the bookstore, financial aid office, and the food court. The tuition increases and high priced textbooks. Oh and the overcrowded classrooms and not being able to get added in the classes you need; definitely not going to miss that.

College was good just needed a few improvements.

5.) What about school do you miss the least?

A little bitter and a little sweet

I am sitting around waiting for my 7:00pm class to start so I can take my last final. This is not just my last final of the semester of the year, but the last final of my undergraduate career. Tomorrow May 18th at 6:00pm I will be graduating with my Bachelor of Science in Business Adminstration concentration Information Systems. I am truly excited about it, being able to walk across that stage knowing that I graduated from college.

The bitter part. I will be leaving my second home. I started college a little less than a month after I graduated from high school. I was a student there for five years and meet lots people that I am glad to call my friends. I had many opportunities and took most of them. I am just a little sad that I will be saying goodbye to my college days to start a new chapter in my life.

Hopefully things go good and I don't mess up to bad. Well we will see :)

Stay on Track and Never Fallback :)

I am now going into my second week of school. The first week was pretty basic [the professors just explained what we were going to do] and I have 2 online classes with the same professor[same stuff different books] and 3 on campus classes[all on Tuesday and Thursday] that are going to be smooth sailing, hopefully.

I actually have all the books I need for my classes, so I am able to do all of my homework on time. My plan for the semester[which is the same for every semester] is to pass all of my classes. My plan for the week is to get all of my homework done[way before] before the deadline and to stay focus in class.

I also what to get more involved in my school[join stuff] and meet lots of people instead of hiding out in the library [like right now]. I am already apart of two organizations but one of them I'm not sure if I want to stay with it. I was thinking about joining ASI or at least volunteering at some events. Tomorrow there will be some clubs tabling so I will go check them out.

Anyways, the whole point of this post was to write about how I'm going to stay focus on school and don't let anything or anyone get in the way of that.

I guess I didn't stay focus [got to work on that] oh well :)

I Hate Mondays.

So, I have a Business Statistics class that is only on Mondays. Last week I had missed class. and there was a quiz today. I didn't know how to do the problem. I also found out that I  have a exam[a word used to make the test seem extra important] next Monday. The good side; it's open book.

Today is also my longest day filled with meetings, classes, and study hours. Won't be going home until after 9pm.

I HATE MONDAYS!!!!

Grades are In!

So, last night a lot of my friends were posting what that got for their final grades of the semester. I went and took a look at what I got and I was not surprised that I did bad, it was a confirmation of want I already knew.

I did not do so good because I basically gave up, and when I decided to try it was too late. Now I have to retake 3 classes. This could have been avoided but I was being a loser.

But today I made the promise to myself that I will stay on track and do this for me and nobody else. Since in the end this will only effect me and nobody else, and no one is going to care if I do good or bad.

Finals are a Killer!!

So, I am in my last week of school for the semester and as of right now my head hurts so bad. It might be from looking at the computer screen for long periods of time.

Anyways, I have one one to go, and that one is tomorrow.

Wish me luck : )

College Days: First week of School

So, yesterday was my last day of my first week. I started school on Sunday and finished Thursday. Man it was so crowed in my classes. If you are not there on early, you don't have a seat.

The classes I am taking are: HUM|ENG|SMT|SOC|OMG|BUS.

This semester I am going to continue with LSBA and join a Sorority, but the one I want requires me to join another club. So, I have to get looking for something that I would like.

I have a feeling this semester is going to be a good one. I have good classes and good friends; what can go wrong?

Big Bear Trip

I went to Big Bear on Friday and I came back yesterday. I had the funnest time. That was the first time that I have ever seen snow and I went sledding.

It was a retreat for an organization that I am a part of. We were planning out the events for the upcoming semester, and there was partying.

Some pictures of the scenes.

The end is near!!

Long time no post. I am now at the end of my junior fall semester. Today is my last day and I am not happy with the way it has ended. I didn’t finish strong like I should have. At the end I started to get lazy, and I just handed in a project I know I could have done better on. So, I won’t be surprised if my grades are not so good. I will have to re-take them and I already know that next semster I have to do a whole like better.

I have to focus on my work and find away to stay interested. It is up to me to do good and there is nobody that is going to tell me. I have to do it myself for me.
